All anaerobic digestion facilities should have a safety process control system to prevent damage to the plant, equipment and personnel. For example, should a high level switch be activated then the feed systems should not be permitted to run, or if a macerator is opened for inspection then the feed system should become disabled. Periodically these control systems should be checked to ensure that the safety systems remain in place.
