PVRV and Gas Holder Inspections Utilising Full Breathing Apparatus

Marches Biogas has several engineers qualified to work with full breathing apparatus and escape sets when undertaking work where there is likely to be a dangerous atmosphere.
Full breathing apparatus is used on many occasions and across multiple sites for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW). As part of their statutory maintenance programme DCWW ensure that the digester pressure vacuum relief valves and gas holders are regularly inspected to maintain plant safety.
DCWW commissioned Marches Biogas to carry out the inspections, when inspecting pressure vacuum relief valves the full breathing apparatus is required for the initial isolation of the valve to ensure full isolation without creating a wider zoned area. This initial work ensures the full inspection can be carried out safely without the need for the breathing apparatus. Where internal gas holder inspections were carried out, the engineer entering the gas holder is required to wear the full breathing apparatus throughout the inspection.
