Flare Inspections, Service & Maintanance

Marches Biogas has many years’ experience of inspecting, servicing and maintaining flares.  Flares are also referred to as surplus gas burners or waste gas burners.  Our specialist engineers have worked on a variety of different types and models of all sizes, including Eurograde, Uniflare and Flare Products.  The design and operation of most flares is similar, and we would be confident in servicing any type of unit.

It is important to ensure that the flare is inspected on a regular basis to ensure it is fully functional, lighting correctly and running as designed.  It is also vital that the control philosophy of the flare is set up to prevent the system from venting biogas to atmosphere, yet not consuming valuable amounts of biogas that could otherwise be utilised through boilers, CHPs or gas upgrade units.  Marches Biogas have the knowledge to assist with the control philosophy of the flares and other biogas users.

On larger units the control of the supply of gas is critical to the ignition of the flare and then the maintenance of the burn.  Marches Biogas can supply and install a variety of control valves necessary for this purpose.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) have many flares across their AD facilities and Marches Biogas service these at regular intervals as part of statutory safety maintenance works.  They attend to trouble shoot any irregularities in flare operation or breakdowns as they occur.  One example was in Autumn 2018 when problems arose with the flare at Cardiff WWTW.  The Operators had witnessed a flare failure; Marches Biogas inspected the unit and detected heat in front of the flash back arrester due to a series of valves leaking and allowing biogas to pass.  All valves were replaced, and the operation of the flare was resumed promptly.
