It’s time to mention some of the heroes behind the organisation that do not always take the limelight but are vital to everyone; and one such hero is Sarah. Sarah is Marches HSQ Manager, and as her title alludes to, looks after health & safety and quality. Now when you are working in the AD industry health & safety is vitally important – as everyone knows there are lots of hazards and it’s essential to keep everyone safe. We do this by having sensible, well thought through procedures and make sure that everybody buys into and complies with the risk assessments and method statements (known as RAMS). It is Sarah who looks after these processes and procedures.

It’s little surprise that Sarah in her spare time enjoys a similarly rewarding occupation of mountain biking – we live in a beautiful area with lots of hills to get the heart beating on the assents and in a different way by the fast descents – normally with lots of puddles (see the photo)! Similar to her work persona, Sarah looks to minismise these hazards by wearing all the latest safety equipment, layers, reflective jacket, eye protection and hard hat – almost the complete PPE for AD site works!

Sarah has had a busy year, managing the process for Marches to become accredited for ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental compliance and ISO 45001 for health and safety management all in one go! Now it was never in doubt that Sarah is a very capable individual, but with a recommendation from the auditor for us to be fully ISO certified, this has been a superb effort.

So, if you happen to be in the Ludlow area and you see a mountain biker in full kit and in total control it’s probably not a bad assumption to think that might be Sarah!
